(EDIT: we've a meetup coming up soon. The SV Ethereum Meetup is hosting an intro to IPFS later this month in San Francisco: [LINK] come hang out!) --------------- Hello Everyone! --------------- @jbenet here. Thanks for all the attention! Did not expect to wake up to this post today :) The best resources for learning about ipfs are: - The IPFS Paper: [LINK] (note: DRAFT 3, working on DRAFT 4, lots has evolved.) - The Alpha Demo: [VIDEO] - The First Tech Talk: [LINK] - The IRC Logs: [LINK] -- there's so much knowledge in these, we're working on moving it over. We're working on a bunch of more expository media: - Specs!! [LINK] - More Demos - More Talks - Draft 4 of the paper But there's only so many hours in a day, and we spend most of our time developing. All the resources will be way more polished as time goes on. Please bear with us as we make these available. In the meantime, ask questions in our new FAQ (below), or in #ipfs on irc.freenode.net -- And we'll be answering questions here too of course. I've just created: [LINK] -- if you ask questions there we can build a knowledge base IPFS already works-- you can install it and try it out. It's not production ready yet, but it's already very reliable. I use it to move around all sorts of personal files, and we use it to host many websites. Some people asked about what applications are there now? There's many static websites on ipfs, and some simple webapps. We ship our entire ipfs webui with ipfs itself (turtles all the way

I'm with you on this one. I had to Google all of this for a few minutes. This is my best interpretation below. I hope others will come in and correct my silly mistakes. (Disclaimer: I'm not a programmer and English is my 2nd language): "So you know how people use BitTorrent to distribute big-budget Hollywood movies with occasional mediocre storylines? What if you could distribute your own data on a similar P2P network, but view it directly in a web browser (among other HTTP clients)? You suddenly turn your seed box into a "web server". Plus, you can stream videos on it too. So your home computer is not just a "web server", it can act as your own "Netflix" server to publish your home movies. And you could do it in a secure fashion. You would need a few protocols (eg IPFS), concepts (eg Merkle Trees), and some freely available software to make it practical, easy, and secure. These tutorials will show you how to get all of those things working together to publish & stream to the world." Watch a demo of this @ 7:00 in this video: [VIDEO]

> Let me add, if somebody would be willing to subsidize such a service (large co, or gov) Except that such a large co or gov would probably not allow certain videos against itself. Can I force them to host it against their wishes? I don't mean to add this link sarcastically: [VIDEO] Maybe we have hope with ipfs? It looks promising to me [LINK] Edit: obligatory sample video [LINK]
