So it remains to be see if its a genius move from Musk, or if traditional spot welded designs are in fact the better approach. Fair enough. There is a chance it may not work as they planned, but the fact that they are buying more gigapresses tells me they are confident they will get it to work. Munro and associates did a couple of videos on gigcasting. They did talk about what happens in crashes and did not see it as a major concern. Munro is universally recognized as the leading experts in automotive manufacturing. link to video where they talk about cracking the gigacast and why it doesn't matter: [VIDEO] Watch the full episodes here: [VIDEO] [LINK]

Yet Tesla has tried different things and now we see the larger auto industry singing a new tune. The most visible example of this is the GigaCast. The Old Auto companies never thought this was a viable path until Tesla showed how superior it actually is. [VIDEO] Sandy Munro is a leading expert in the auto industry, tears down all the vehicles and consults with all the major manufactures. He has many great videos on the trends. One thing he consistently points out is how adverse "old auto" is to new ideas or change of any kind, that they don't know how to innovate

Sandy Munro currently believes that Tesla is 5 years ahead. Heck, even the Ford CEO has openly said that it’s very hard to catch up to Tesla in terms of software, batteries, and vehicle design [1]. For example, here is a video explaining the differences in the Tesla vehicle manufacturing over the years [2]. [1]: [LINK] [2]: [VIDEO]

Hold on there, Tesla has repeatedly shown an amazing ability to cut costs of their products while improving functionality/quality. Yes Tesla benefits from credits caused by other companies not meeting co2 targets set by the government but that wouldn't have been enough to save them from three near bankruptcies. And yes, they are still quite a ways away from being a leader in overall quality and consistency but yhey are executing extremly well in their R&D compared to other US car companies only to be outdone by the Chinese, certainly not any US company. [1]: [VIDEO] As someone solidly on the left, this has really frustrated me to no end with the typical lefist sources I watch. In 2025 Facts really matter but all I see are facts being omitted to push a narrative (ie. Elon wasn't the founder of Tesla, Tesla/SpaceX is just alive because of the government subsidizes, Elon does not know anything about how to make a car/rocket). They cite his bad behavior or screwups in reforming Twitter but unless you have followed everything that Elon has accomplished/failed at you are lying by omission. This is especially dangerous now because by dismissing him as dumber than he really is, you are setting him up for surprise successes because people let their guard down. This is what I see on /r/fednews at how shocked they are over how fast he is moving at his slash and burn. You would have known this had you followed the whole Twitter saga very closely, the early days of Tesla where they ousted

> That's a single example > megacastings Wow, you brought your own counterexample! Cast frames were suggested to Elon by Sandy Munro. [VIDEO] To quote Sandy: "These guys at Tesla, they take everything you say literally, and then they go basically implement! It's amazing! It is truely to me amazing that these guys can do so much in such a short period of time." [LINK]
